Sophisticated Wedding Inspiration from Jackie O’ and JFK

Jackie Kennedy's wedding dress to John F. Kennedy is by far one of our all time favorite things.  Rent My Dust Vintage Rentals found this amazing blog post yesterday by Society Bride and just had to re-blog it.  It doesn't mention vintage but you can take bits of it as inspiration for your vintage wedding.  A huge "thank you" to Society Bride for posting it!  Hope you enjoy!

REBLOGGED FROM SOCIETY BRIDE:

Looking for unforgettable style and sophisticated wedding inspiration for your big day? Look no further because today we are featuring the ultimate Society Celebrity Wedding.   Jackie Kennedy’s unforgettable Battenberg lace gown, created by Ann Lowe, was made of ivory tissue silk and featured a portrait neckline, fitted bodice, and a bouffant skirt embellished with bands of more than fifty yards of flounces.  Her rosepoint lace veil (worn first by her grandmother Lee) was draped from a tiara of lace and orange blossoms.  Jacqueline’s accessories included a choker of pearls and a diamond bracelet that was a gift from her groom.  Be sure and check out fun facts and additional wedding details below!

The bling: Jackie’s Van Cleef & Arpels engagement ring consisted of one 2.88 carat diamond mounted next to a 2.84 carat emerald cut emerald with tapered baguettes.

The rehearsal: At their rehearsal dinner at Newport’s Seaside Clambake Club, Senator Kennedy presented each of his ushers with a Brooks Brothers umbrella engraved with initials and the wedding date.

The dress: Jackie’s ivory silk wedding gown featured a portrait neckline and full skirt embellished with interwoven fabric bands and wax flowers.  African-American dress-maker Ann Lowe spent over two months making the dress which required 50 yards of ivory silk taffeta.

…and more bling: The single strand of family pearls, a diamond leaf pin and a diamond bracelet presented to her at the rehearsal dinner by Senator Kennedy.

You think your guest list is out of control? Over 800 guests filled St. Mary’s Church in Newport, Rhode Island to watch the Senator and Miss Bouvier exchange vows.  The couple later joined 1,200 (!!!) guests for their luncheon reception at the Bouviers’ summer home of Hammersmith Farm.  On the menu – fruit cup, creamed chicken, and ice cream sculpted to resemble roses as well as the couples five-tier wedding cake.

The honeymoon: The newlyweds departed to a shower of paper rose petals. They spent the night at the famed Waldorf Astoria in New York and then continued on to the haute honeymoon destination of the day, Acapulco, Mexico.
